Drones and ISIS Combat

quadcopters for sale

The United States and Russia want more modern aircraft. But Ukraine does not have the necessary resources to train their soldiers in these types of aircraft. While Ukrainians are able to receive training on aircraft and other vehicles in Western nations like Germany, they can't get the same training for drones in Ukraine. Ukrainians are accustomed to older equipment like trucks so drones make it easier to use. Drones are easy to use by soldiers, as they do not require pilots. Drones have a similar interface to video games, making them easy to use.

Aerorozvidka

Ukrainian military uses an unusual approach to fighting ISIS in east Ukraine. Octocopters are equipped with thermal cameras and can be used for night-time missions. Some drones come with anti-tank weapons. They can also light up columns. These drones can carry up to 11 lbs worth of payload and are extremely maneuverable. Due to their small size, the drones are able to fly low over targets and drop munition.

Originally an IT enthusiast group, Aerorozvidka has become a military air reconnaissance unit. Aerorozvidka began as a civilian drone company. However, the organization grew to become a fully fledged unit with its own head. The Ukrainian government banned Russian military aircraft from entering the country because of export controls. Aerorozvidka relies upon crowdfunding and donations to maintain its existence since many of its components are manufactured in the US.

Switchblade

The U.S. military has supplied Ukraine with armed "Switchblade," drones capable of striking Russian tanks from faraway. This unmanned aerial vehicle was developed by the US Air Force to meet Ukrainian requirements. John Kirby from the Pentagon stated that over 121 of these machines were being sent to Ukraine. It is unclear how the Switchblades will work in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

The Switchblade is a small drone with a 40-kilometer range. It can be launched from a tube. Unlike Bayraktar drones, the Switchblade can hit a Russian convoy from 6 miles away. These small aircraft can set up quickly in a conflict like Ukraine. The Switchblade is capable of flying much faster than the Bayraktar, which is the current U.S. ally.

Russian kamikaze drones

The US has recently announced a $800million military aid package for Ukraine. The delivery of 121 unmanned aircraft called "Phoenix Ghosts", which is intended to terrorize Russian forces, is part of the package. These aircraft are designed for flying over areas for up to thirty to forty minutes and come equipped with warheads, cameras, and other equipment. Switchblade, a hovering munition of 5.5 pounds that can kill tanks and armored cars, is an example.

These lightweight, small aircrafts can be operated from land, sea, and air thanks to their powerful, low-flying, gimbal. In a conflict like this, any advantage an opponent has over the other side in the aerial battle is important, and the use of Russian kamikaze drones is a direct threat to that advantage. This capability is crucial for Ukraine's military because it can easily break Russian sieges, and attack command-and controller nodes. This capability would be a big liability for both parties, but Ukraine could emerge victorious if a small drone makes a difference on battlefield.

U.S. drones loitering

Russia is integrating ZALA KYB loitering weapons into its military arsenal. These drones can use deadly loitering munitions similar to bazookas. The use of loitering drones may lead to the proliferation of these autonomous killing machines in black markets. But experts and observers are worried. So what can the U.S. Do to prevent this?

Kirby states that the U.S. government had sent more than 121 Switchblade loitering drones into Ukraine to aid Kiev defeat Russian forces. The Switchblade drone, which weighs in at 5.5 lbs, can hover over an area for 30 to 40 minutes. It has a camera and small warhead. It has the mission to take down opposition forces in Ukraine.
