Insurance Adjusters Can Help Hurricane Harvey Drones Assess Damage

drones with camera and video

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, insurance adjusters are bringing more drones to texas than ever before to quickly assess the damage. While this new technology is being used extensively to assess damage, its practical application in relief efforts is limited. Tethered drones hover in the skies above pastures near Hankamer, Texas, checking for damage. The red cross works to speed aid and provide assistance to affected communities. Drones are however only one tool in the red Cross' arsenal.

At&t

AT&T has been testing drones for connectivity and cellular coverage in disaster zones as part of its ongoing effort to assist the Texans affected from Hurricane Harvey. These drones can be more precise and safer than ground maintenance crews. These drones can also report back with photos or HD video, giving first responders an aerial view of a cell site. But what is AT&T's drone capable of?

PrecisionHawk

PrecisionHawk Hurricane Harvey drone pilots used DJI Matrice100 multicopter aircrafts equipped with Zenmuse Z30 digital zoom cameras. With up to 30x optical zoom, these cameras capture stunning photos and video. PrecisionHawk pilots prepared for disaster by bringing numerous battery packs and assembling at an operations center. These pilots had received rigorous training and were knowledgeable in emergency management and safety procedures.

NCDOT

NCDOT sent 15 drone teams into areas where Hurricane Harvey was likely to impact. NCDOT drones were ready to perform all flight operations in accordance the Federal Aviation Administration's Part 107 (FAA), and COA. These drones were used for surveying transportation infrastructure such as roads and bridges. They also served to monitor road conditions and backups during storms.

Allstate

A drone-based insurance plan is in place. Allstate will use drones to assess flood damage in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. The company has already used drone technology to quickly reimburse customers' debit cards in the event that they have to file a claim. USAA used drones for storm-related claims assessment, the first use of them being after Hurricane Sandy. Allstate recently used drones throughout Texas, including New Braunfels.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department

MDFR used DJI Mavic Enterprise Dual drones that had thermal imaging and spotlight payloads to aid in the initial search for survivors. They used the drones to provide general situation awareness throughout the night. High-resolution images were provided by the drones using thermal cameras and spotlights. Aerial photos and data were merged to create a 3D model.

How To

How to Choose the Best Drone for Photography

This article will help you choose the right drone for you. We will explain what features you should be looking for when selecting a drone.

Let's begin by discussing some tips and tricks for selecting a drone to suit your needs.

Before you buy any product, the first thing to think about is its size. If you're going to take photos from above, then you'll probably find that a larger-sized camera is easier to control than one that's smaller. This is especially true for beginner pilots. Because you are afraid to go higher, you don't want your pilot skills to be compromised.

A second consideration is to examine the quality of the camera's sensor. The larger the sensor, you can capture better quality images.

You might also consider purchasing remote controllers. They allow you to see where your drone is in space.

Next, consider whether you would prefer a fixed mount or an adjustable gimbal. A gimbal can be used to take stills and fly. Gimbals are easier to keep steady and allow for greater movement. However, they cost more money depending on what you're after.
